MyoSure®

Myosure Q&A
What is MyoSure?
MyoSure is a procedure to remove unwanted tissue from your uterus. This treatment is a minimally invasive option for removing:
- Polyps
- Fibroids
- Excess intrauterine tissue
The benefit of MyoSure is to get rid of fibroids and other tissue that cause you pain or other symptoms while allowing you to keep your uterus intact. The procedure also doesn’t interfere with uterine function or shape.
MyoSure also offers other benefits over traditional open surgery to remove uterine tissue. Because treatment requires no incisions, you don’t have to worry about scars or have concerns about the risks associated with anesthesia.
What can I expect during a MyoSure procedure?
MyoSure is an in-office, outpatient procedure that involves the insertion of a special wand instrument with an attached camera through your vagina and into your uterus. The camera provides Dr. Sargent with real-time images of the treatment site.
The wand gently cuts away unwanted tissue in just a few minutes and then suctions the small tissue pieces out of your body. Once he completely removes fibroids, polyps, or other unwanted tissue, Dr. Sargent removes the wand.
Following your procedure, it’s normal to experience some cramping that you can relieve with over-the-counter medications. Dr. Sargent can determine the right time for you to return to work and your other activities, but generally, one to two days of recovery is all you need.
Am I a good candidate for MyoSure?
To determine if MyoSure is an effective treatment option for you, Dr. Sargent reviews your medical history and assesses the severity of your symptoms due to fibroids, polyps, or excess uterine tissue.
In some cases, Dr. Sargent may recommend other therapies to treat your symptoms before recommending MyoSure.
In general, you should be in good overall health and free of infections and cancers of the uterus or endometrium.
After your MyoSure procedure, it can take three months or longer for your body to heal completely before you can see a reduction in heavy or abnormal bleeding associated with fibroids or polyps.
